❓ FAQ from Subjects

Common questions screening subjects may ask you.

Why do I need a background check?

Background checks are often run to verify qualifications, ensure employee safety, comply with legal requirements, assess trustworthiness, or protect reputation.

What happens to my data?

Subject data is stored by Scaut as evidence of the check for a period defined by the organization. After that, all data is securely deleted. Scaut doesn't keep copies or process data for any other purpose. Scaut follows rules and scope set by the organization requesting the check as they are the Data controller. We never resell the data, we don't share the data to anyone, but the organization, which ordered the screening.

What happens to my ID copy provided for verification?

The image is processed and analyzed during verification then securely wiped after check completion. Data is kept only for the retention period set by the organization.

How long do I have to submit my information?

This depends on settings chosen, but subjects should submit as soon as possible to avoid delays. Progress made while filling the form is saved and can be returned to before expiry date.

Why do I have to list everything that's already in my CV?

In most cases Scaut doesn't have access to the CV and still needs the information.

How do background searches work?

Background checking involves searching various sources like government databases, publicly available records, internet data, or interviews with appropriate parties. Sources used depend on specific searches ordered.

Who is Scaut?

Scaut is a global workforce screening and verification company helping organizations conduct screening checks for new and existing employees, contractors, consultants and more. We specialize in screening for high risk, high security and critical importance industries. We value transparency and privacy.

How will I know Scaut has received my documents?

When uploading documentation during screening, look for the "Successfully received!" confirmation message.

Can I see the result of my check?

It's entirely up to the organization whether they share check report results with you. Please consult the organization, which invited you to the process. The organization, and the specific person, who initiated the screening process is displayed in the portal.

Why is my background check taking so long?

Most background checks complete in 2-5 business days, but some reports may take longer (while some take as little as 15 seconds). This completion date is an estimate, not a guarantee, and depends on various factors and type of research involved.

Can I make the process faster?

The more accurate and complete information provided, the faster it will be. Maintain chronology in employment placings, use official company emails for employers, always attach supporting documents and qualifications where possible. Do not edit, or temper the documents you provide to Scaut for verification as they will automatically be flagged by our technology as potentially fraudulent and won't be accepted.

Something in my background check report is wrong, what should I do?

If you make an error on your background check report, contact Scaut to address the discrepancy if the check is still ongoing.

Why is power of attorney required from me?

If you want Scaut to obtain certain documents on your behalf, you need to provide Scaut legal ability to act in your name when interacting with government/agency. This is voluntary and only when you don't want to obtain documents yourself. Some countries do not recognize electronic authorizations and may require mailed-in power of attorney document with your notarised signature.
